Sally Carden approaches jewellery as a form of sculptural expression, bringing together an appreciation for natural forms, materiality and the individuality of each stone. Working from her studio in Tamarama, Sydney, overlooking the surrounding bushland and coastline, Sally draws inspiration from the textures, colours and imperfections found in the natural world.

Her background in graphic design at Swinburne University in Melbourne, followed by studies in jewellery manufacturing at the Design Centre in Enmore, informs a practice that balances composition and proportion with an instinctive, hands-on approach to making. Working directly with metal, Sally carves, sculpts and experiments with unconventional melting techniques to create distinctive surfaces, organic forms and unexpected textures. Rather than seeking perfect symmetry, she embraces the unpredictable qualities of the materials, allowing each piece to develop its own character through the making process.

Realm works primarily with recycled gold, silver and platinum, incorporating Australian sapphires and other locally sourced stones where possible, alongside vintage and reclaimed gemstones. Each material is selected for its individual qualities, with the natural variations of colour, texture and form informing the final design.

Bespoke commissions form an integral part of the practice, offering an opportunity to reimagine meaningful stones and existing jewellery into pieces that carry personal histories.

Made by hand in Sydney, Realm's jewellery sits somewhere between sculpture and adornment. Each piece is considered in its construction yet retains a sense of spontaneity designed to be worn, lived in and passed down through generations.
